WELCOME TO THE
Institutions and Governance Lab
UGA ANTHROPOLOGY
Our lab is unified by a shared interest in critical, constructive and imaginative engagements with environmental governance, in its variable forms.
Lab members' research cuts across land, freshwater and marine environments—while often bringing multiple ontologies into conversation, where such distinctions may erode. We are also united by our efforts to challenge dominant, exclusionary forms of governance but approach this shared project in variable ways—from supporting efforts to honor or legitimize marginalized peoples and their practices, to pushing back on dominant paradigms, or envisioning more humane, inclusive and effective governance approaches.
Lab members also share a commitment to situating anthropological theory and method in ways that help to address pressing social and ecological challenges, while learning to effectively juggle their dual accountability to academia and society. We are united by a shared purpose of placing our scholarship and practice at the service of wider efforts to transition to a more inclusive, just and sustainable world.
